Turn Up the Party Heat – The Sultry Decorating Secret

In honor of the upcoming holiday where there will be many parties and gatherings, I thought I would share this post by Houzz contributor Tiffany Carboni. Happy Thanksgiving!

Color Inspiration – Winter White

It used to be an old fashion rule to never wear white after Labor Day. The beautiful neutral color of winter white has changed that mantra. White is used year round in many striking ways. An all white design (be it a fashion design or a room design) is beautiful and soft, but can be hard to pull off correctly. The key is to look tailored and sophisticated and not stark and cold. In interior design, my opinion is that kitchens and baths look best with all white as other rooms require some type of accent in order to soften to design. In fashion, all white goes! Here are some of my winter white inspirations that have completely nailed this trend and successfully convey a sophisticated and soft appearance.

House Beautiful’s Designer Visions Showhouse

The color king has done it again! New York designer, Jamie Drake, recently dreamt into reality a glamorous and glitzy design for the House Beautiful Designer Visions Showhouse located in Walker Tower, a gorgeous 1929 Art Deco skyscraper in NYC. Subtlety is definitely not Jamie’s forte. Take a look at these stunning rooms and you will never again want to use taupe!

10 Little Things We Can Do To Make Life Easier for Each Other

I came across this post today by Almie on Thought Catalog and it rang very true to me. It definitely deserved a repost! Living in Manhattan sometimes you can lose sight of being polite, having manners and just generally not being selfish.

1

1. Don’t ever tell anyone that they look “tired”

Don’t you hate it when someone says this to you? Well, EVERYONE hates to hear that. So don’t say it! You never know what someone else is going through in their life, so no need to make this annoying comment.

2. Help people, and if you offer to help someone, follow through

Recently I joined Junior League here in the city. I have always been part of volunteer and service organizations and over the past few years I had gotten away from it. Helping people not only is good for the person you help, it is also helpful for your soul.

3. Be kind to people who work in retail and food service

Being kind or rude to a person in the service industry, in my opinion, is very telling of someone’s character. Everyone is trying to do the best they can so please, lay off the attitude.

4. Let someone know you are not interested

You know that someone that keeps asking you out and you keep dragging them along? Please stop. It is much more kind to let that person down easy and let them move on.

5. Actually “hang out sometime”

Everyone I know is guilty of this! “Yes, we should hang out sometime.” Yeah? Well do it! It is great to reconnect with old friends. Have them bring along some of their friends and expand your circle! Over the past few months, I have gotten away from my ritual of initiating meet ups and get togethers. This has made me realize how important it is to stay connected and create new connections with friends.

6. Be a little more honest

I appreciate anyone who can nicely tell me an outfit looks bad or I should maybe comb my hair! LOL! But seriously, being honest doesn’t mean being rude. Being sincerely honest with someone will only benefit them and help them gain trust in you.

7. Stop calling each other mean names on the internet

So many people hide behind monikers on the internet. I find this especially true on instagram! If you don’t have something that you could say to someone’s face, don’t say it on the internet.

8. Send more letters (not emails) and gifts

I have a good friend who is so good at doing this. She always sends a card just to say she is thinking about me. There is something special about receiving a letter in the mail with a little note. It will brighten anyone’s day.

9. Give more genuine compliments

Sometimes it is easy to take for granted that the people around you know that you appreciate and love them. Give them a compliment just to reaffirm this. Seriously, how good does it make you feel when a coworkers says, “What cute shoes!” or your boyfriend says “You are so thoughtful”?

10. Have more patience while waiting in lines.

This is a big one especially in NYC. I am very guilty of losing my patience as well. Try to take a deep breath and maybe plan ahead a little better next time 🙂

Have a wonderful day!
