Today was Catalonia Day in Barcelona. Catalonia is an area in Spain that was its own entity from the 9th century until 1714 when it fell to the forces of the Bourbon King Philip V. Catalan as a language and culture were outlawed. However if you visit Barcelona, you realize that Catalan culture has never faded. It may be more prevalent now than ever. Catalonia now seeks to secede from Spain as a whole and hopes to become the 28th member of the EU. Here are some photos of today’s activities.
