Hollywood Glam and Regency Style

By far and away, my favorite style is Hollywood glam. I love how this style has made a reemergence on the red carpet as stars are channeling the days of old school style. Beautifully fit dresses, soft waves and red lips. The style is undoubtedly feminine and sexy, yet not overly revealing. Think Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe and Rita Hayworth. These women are forever style icons.

Just as these timeless styles are being re-imagined to fit the modern day, the same is happening in interior design. As a go-to style, I would say this is it for me! I love the classic lines mixed with an art deco feel punctuated by very theatrical accents. The Hollywood Regency style dates back to the 1930’s but has recently made a comeback bringing the glitz and glamor with it. Hollywood Regency style is all about the details and is centered around the concept of entertaining – as this style channels days gone by before large screen TV’s. Beautiful lush fabrics, crystals, high gloss lacquer paint – all to create a mood conducive to entertaining and impressing guests.

This style is thought to have come about in the golden age of film by a man named William Haines who was not only a movie star but also dabbled in set design. He  used 19th-century French, Greek Revival, and Modernist touches into a heady mixture that has since been christened Hollywood Regency. Having many famous and influential friends, the style spread and gained popularity among the “in” crowd which in turn was copied by designers around the world.

Another well known designer of the day was Dorothy Draper whose exuberant interiors are also classically known as part of the Hollywood Regency style. She is famously known for her classic rooms splashed with vibrant colors and over scaled furniture.

Here are some beautiful modern Hollywood glam interiors to inspire you!
